Day 79: Allison’s Birthday

Workouts. . .
10 min. yoga, 25 min run/walk (2.2mi)

We had a reservation at Maggiano’s (down on 16th street) for 7:30 tonight, but we weren’t sat until after 8. Not sure what the point is of making a reservation. There was no one waiting on a Tuesday evening anyway. . . . Regardless, there were seven of us and most weren’t vegetarian, so I thought it might be tricky to order. But it went rather smoothly to my surprise. For appetizers, we got garlic bread — nothing weird there. Then we did the Caesar salad and the Chopped, with both blue cheese and proscuitto on the side (someone in our party hates blue cheese). Then for the entrees, we did family style but we got four things — plenty for seven people, by the way — with spaghetti marinara, chicken marsala, eggplant parmesan and the four-cheese ravioli. I would have been fine with the spaghetti and eggplant, but our pregnant friend had a craving for the ravioli and it turned out to be an excellent choice, creamy and covered with a pesto cream sauce. Although the chicken marsala there is excellent, I only smelled it briefly while passing around the table, and George gave me a mushroom from his portion so I felt like I got a taste. For dessert, lemon cookies and chocolate café truffles gave us the sweet finish we wanted. I ate two of the lemon cookies.
