Favorite Recipes

I read a lot of blogs. (Or used to, before the baby ate up my time.) I've even worked up the nerve to test out the recipes on some of them, with varied success. It can be devastating to look at someone's gorgeous photos and then, after an afternoon of painstaking cookery, your disastrous results.

So here are a list of my favorite recipes from other blogs, ones I've made and relished and, often, remade again and again. Because that's what you do with delicious recipes — eat them and eat them, then pass them along.

Orangette's Oatmeal Pancakes have delicious crisped, lacey edges. They are my standby pancake recipe for guests. Also, her husband's Chickpea Salad recipe, recently highlighted in Bon Appetit, whips up quickly for the perfect picnic snack. I've made loads of things from her blog, partly because we have similar taste in cookbooks and a fondness for vegetables.

The Pioneer Woman's Cinnamon Rolls are the best you'll ever eat. Seriously. I've made them no less than 100 times and have my own tweaks to the recipe, but nothing major. That's saying something.

If you, like myself, have never tried spaghetti squash before, this Spaghetti Squash Gratin from Pinch My Salt will win you directly over.

Dinner with Julie's Cranberry Oat Squares are phenomenal, one of those kinda good for you desserts that also leaves you giddily licking your fingers.

101 Cookbooks
is my go-to site for vegetarian dinner inspiration, but I'll try to keep it brief. There was a segment of time when we had a lot of these Giant Chipotle White Beans for dinner with a crusty baguette. I add 1/2 tsp of espresso powder to these Itsy Bitsy Chocolate Chip Cookies, but that is all the revising they need. They're delicious! Crisp and seriously crunchy, this Cornmeal Crunch makes a fabulous side to almost anything, from breakfast through dinner. I prefer to eat it cold out of the pan, if there's any left.

This Strawberry Banana Cream Pie by Joy the Baker kicks the booty of plain old banana cream pie.

For a light spring dinner, consider SmittenKitchen's Zucchini and Ricotta Galette, riddled with yummy squash and a crumbly, butter crust which even my husband devoured. While I nixed the ham and made a spinach version instead, her Quiche Lorraine does indeed have an enviable crust, one that's probably the simplest, non-soggy quiche crust I've produced in ages. This Tomato and Corn Pie will be eaten in its entirety if you make it with homegrown produce. Swear. And lastly, yes, I too have realized that I am drawn to SmittenKitchen recipes featuring a butter crust.

I've tested and tasted hundreds more recipes from dozens more blogs; these just happen to have made my handwritten-recipe-card cut — which means I have adopted them as my own. I'll keep adding as I go.
